Teaching and Training

The CCML is integrated into the University Hospital and Médecine Paris Sud (Paris XI) Medical School according to a University-Hospital Convention.

This convention is consolidated by the statutory appointment of the Dean of the Medical School to the CCML’s Steering Committee.

The CCML currently has university appointments: 3 PU-PH, 1 MCU-PH, 3 CCA
The CCML has 14 intern posts (see below)
The CCML hosts medical students (Years 2, 3 and 4)
The CCML hosts 9 pharmacy students as externs (Year 5)

Every six months, the department plays host to three Public Hospital interns studying for a diploma in Chest & Cardiovascular Surgery or Vascular Surgery (or Pediatric Surgery, ENT Surgery, etc.). The CCML is often chosen by interns towards the end of their studies-evidence of the quality of the teaching provided.

Adult heart surgery

Cardiologists and surgeons from the department actively contribute to the training of three externs and two interns with theoretical and practical courses.

Dr. Rémi NOTTIN, Secretary-General of the French Society for Chest and Cardiovascular Surgery, also helps organize the Society’s annual conference and the Presidential Days of the College of Chest and Cardiovascular Surgery. Dr. Alexandre AZMOUN teaches heart and vascular surgery to students at Paris-Sud University Hospital.

Interventional cardiology

In addition, the department also actively contributes to the education of:

one intern. The internship is chosen in the final year (underlining the attractiveness of the post).

University Hospital interns

residents studying for qualification in interventional cardiology (Dr. Caussin)

physicians studying for qualification in echocardiography (Dr. Raoux)

interventional cardiologists from other centres can attend sessions consisting of one day of theory and practice in endocoronary ultrasonography (Dr. Caussin)

Pharmaceutical courses

The Medical Biology Laboratory, along with the Pharmacy department, play an active part in training pharmacy externs. Apart from teaching theoretical and practical courses held in the CCML, the heads of these departments (Prof. Jean-Marie Libert and Prof. Bruno Edouard) are associated Professors at the School of Pharmacy of Paris-Sud-11 University in Châtenay-Malabry and are responsible for coordinating pharmacy teaching in the XI-F sector.
