Documents required on admission, pre-admission or for consultations:
Whenever a patient is admitted a record is created containing information about their identity and conditions relating to the payment of hospital fees. Please come with the following documents:
An identity card (French National Identity Card, driving licence, residency permit, or passport)
Your carte vitale (French social security card) and health insurance certificate
If you have CMU (Universal health care) coverage, the certificate specifying your rights
If you have a mutuelle (private health insurance) or additional insurance, your card
Depending upon your situation certain other documents may be required:
Foreigners not working in France:
EU citizens: proof of coverage (European Health Insurance Card) or European card,
Non-EU citizens: proof of coverage issued by the social authorities of the country of residence or by the embassy,
French war veterans and war pensioners (Art. L115): your free healthcare book,
Work accident victim: the declaration of the work accident delivered by your employer,
French child or adolescent with a handicap recognised by the CDES (Commission of Special Education): attestation from the CAF (family allowances fund) that they are currently paying an allowance,
A.M.E. beneficiary (State Medical Aid): currently valid A.M.E. attestation.
If it is likely that your hospital fees will not be paid for by an organisation and if you do not qualify for measures covering people in financial hardship, you will be required to pay a sum on admission, which is renewable and calculated according to your length of stay (Art. R716-9-1 of the Public Health Code).
Coverage of fees:
If you have social security coverage, there are 2 possible cases:
Either you have a have a ticket modérateur and have to make an own contribution, in which case the ticket covers 20% of treatment costs, or a fixed sum of €18 for acts carried out as an outpatient or during a hospital stay costing €91 or more.
Or costs (for acts carried out while in hospital or as an outpatient) are fully covered. This is the case if you are exonerated from the ticket modérateur and therefore from making an own contribution (if you suffer from a chronic illness, are hospitalised because of a work accident, or are disabled, Art. L115 of the Military Pensions and Maternity Insurance Code).
In both cases you will have to pay:
The fixed daily rate, that all hospitalised patients have to pay
Costs relating to personal requests
Remember to contact your mutuelle to check what you can be reimbursed for.
